From Day to Night: Ethiopia’s Beauty Captured in Tiles
Sebastiaan Hess, known for his intricate and finely crafted tiles, has created a stunning artwork inspired by the natural beauty of Ethiopia’s landscapes. The design beautifully captures both the peaceful daylight and the mystique of the moonlit night, reflecting the country’s rich history and breathtaking scenery. Sebastiaan also drew inspiration from the mesmerizing views seen from the Fasil Ghebbi Castle, a 17th-century architectural gem. The castle’s panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape added to the layers of depth and meaning in his artwork.
The front of each tile depicts the bright, serene landscape of the day, while the reverse reveals a magical nighttime scene, symbolizing the dynamic contrast between light and darkness. This duality – the transition from day to night – mirrors the versatility and timelessness of Gogetti’s collections, which effortlessly combine sophistication and casual elegance.
